3D Shapes Worksheets
Updated October 2026 · 10 free printables
Printable 3D shapes worksheets for kindergarten to 3rd grade: match solids to their names, find the cube, sphere, cylinder or cone hiding in everyday objects, color a toy castle by shape, sort shapes that roll, stack or slide, find the flat face on the bottom of each solid, count the blocks in a tower scene, solve shape riddles, fill in a faces, edges and vertices table and match each solid to its net.
Every solid is drawn in true 3D with dashed lines for the hidden edges, so kids learn to read the same kind of drawing they will see in later geometry. There is also a step-by-step page for drawing a cube and a cylinder. All pages with answers include an answer key on page 2.

A free printable match each 3d shape to its net worksheet with an answer key. Write the letter of the net that folds into each solid. It is aimed at third grade, around ages 8 to 9.
Tips for 3d shapes worksheets
- Turn a real box or can in your hands before naming the drawing: count the faces you can touch.
- Remember that dashed lines are edges at the back. Count them too when you find edges and vertices.
- A sphere has no flat face, so it is the only basic solid that can roll in every direction.
Fun math facts
- For any prism or pyramid, faces + vertices - edges = 2. A cube gives 6 + 8 - 12 = 2.
- The Great Pyramid of Giza is a square pyramid that was the tallest human-made structure for thousands of years.
- There are 11 different nets that fold into a cube.
Fun ways to use your printables
- Go on a 3D shape hunt in the kitchen and sort what you find into cubes, cylinders, spheres and more.
- Build the toy castle from the coloring page with real blocks, cups and party hats.
- Cut out a cube net from cardboard, fold it into a box and roll it like a die.

Frequently asked questions
What are the 3D shapes kids learn first?
Cube, sphere, cylinder, cone, rectangular prism and pyramid. Later grades add the triangular prism, the triangular pyramid and other prisms.
What is the difference between a face, an edge and a vertex?
A face is a flat surface, an edge is the line where two faces meet, and a vertex is a corner where edges come together. A cube has 6 faces, 12 edges and 8 vertices.
Why are some lines dashed?
Dashed lines show the edges at the back of the solid that you could not see if it were a real block. They help kids count every edge and vertex, including the hidden ones.
How can I make 3D shapes hands-on?
Collect a can, a ball, a box and an ice cream cone from the kitchen and sort them before the worksheets, or cut out a net from the matching page and fold it into a real solid.
