Drawing Games for Kids: Whiteboard and Paper Games
Updated October 2026 · 63 free printables
Eight drawing games to play on a whiteboard, a chalkboard or a sheet of paper, with free printables for each one: pictionary-style word cards, guess what I'm drawing, finish the drawing, what's missing, one shape five ways, draw the story, draw what comes next and picture pieces. They need no screen and no setup beyond a marker.
Every printable carries a one-line whiteboard version at the bottom, so the same game works at the kitchen table, in the car with a clipboard, or on the big board in a classroom. Most pages suit ages 3 to 7; the puzzles with answer keys add a memory or logic twist for older kids.

How to play the games on a whiteboard
Pictionary-style word cards
Put the cut-out cards in a bowl. The drawer picks one, keeps it secret and draws it on the board in one minute, no letters and no talking. The first right guess scores a point and draws next.
Guess what I'm drawing
Draw step 1 of a card on the board and ask what it is going to be. Take guesses, add step 2, and keep going. Whoever guesses right first draws the next card.
Finish the drawing
Draw one starter shape, a squiggle or a hill, and hand over the marker. Your child finishes the picture any way they like, then draws a starter for you.
What's missing?
Draw four or five simple things in a row. Your child looks for ten seconds, closes their eyes, and you erase one. They name it and draw it back. Swap roles.
One shape, five ways
Draw the same shape five times across the board. Take turns turning each one into something new: a circle becomes a sun, a clock, a pizza. Say what it is.
Draw the story
Split the board into four boxes. Draw the first scene and tell the opening line; each player adds the next box and the next line until the story ends.
Draw what comes next
Draw three or four pictures that follow a rule, like a tower growing one block each time. Your child draws the next one. Then they make a pattern for you, and you may get it wrong on purpose.
Picture pieces
Draw something simple in four parts far apart from each other, some of them sideways. Everyone guesses what it is before you draw it whole.
Tips for coloring Drawing Games for Kids: Whiteboard and Paper Games
- Keep the marker moving: in guessing games, add a line every few seconds so nobody waits.
- Praise the guess, not the drawing. The point of these games is talking and looking, not perfect pictures.
- Let the child win the marker: whoever guesses right draws the next round.
Fun facts about Drawing Games for Kids: Whiteboard and Paper Games
- Drawing from memory and guessing partial pictures both train visual closure, a skill linked to reading readiness.
- Children who draw with an adult talk more than children who color alone, because every line invites a question.
- Whiteboard markers are easier for small hands than pencils: the lines are bold and mistakes wipe away.
Fun ways to use your printables
- Keep a game night rotation: one guessing game, one finishing game and one puzzle page.
- Take a photo of the best whiteboard drawing before it gets erased and start a family gallery.
- Play guess what I'm drawing in the car with a clipboard and the printable cards.

Frequently asked questions
How do you play drawing games with a child who can't draw well yet?
Pick the games where the grown-up draws and the child guesses or decides: guess what I'm drawing, what's missing and picture pieces. The child plays with their eyes and words first, and switches to the marker when they want to.
What do I need?
A whiteboard and a marker, or just paper and a pencil. The printables are optional: they give you ready-made rounds (cards, started drawings, puzzles) and an answer key where the game has one.
Which game is best for two children?
Guess what I'm drawing and finish the drawing work well with two or more: kids take turns drawing and guessing, and the printable cards keep the rounds fair.
Are these free?
Yes. Every page is a free PDF for home, homeschool and classroom use.
How long does a round take?
Two to five minutes per card or box. A page of five cards is a nice 15-minute game before dinner.
